This problem is addressed in PRISMA 2009, PRISMA 2020, AMSTAR 1, AMSTAR 2, ROBIS and MECIR. Publication bias, or the tendency for academic papers to report significant results, can be addressed by searching for and including grey literature. Retrospective examination of publication bias, such as the use of funnel plots or GRADE assessment can also be useful, but only if conducted and interpreted correctly.
